(Sorry, I'm taking over Rhage until we find my man.)
Mary laughed and hugged onto Rhage's arm as they walked into the billiard room. It was his night off and she couldn't wait. She had had a lonely couple of nights, thankfully Rhaine had been around or else she would have been even worse off. Even though she was excited for game night, she was even more ready for bedtime. The last couple nights the beast had taken over, mostly because he was juiced from the lack of lessers making Rhage transform into the beast, so he had to get his fill somehow. Not like Mary minded at all, but she missed Rhage's soft touches.
Rhage pushed Mary towards the huge game cabinet. "Take your pick. Pick a game, any game."
Mary clapped her hands together and opened the doors. Not only were the games a mess, but there were a ton of them! As she looked over the games she knew she couldn't pick a card game or a game that involved a lot of thought because Rhage was a genius. Then she spotted it. The PERFECT game, for her anyway. Mary turned around, holding the game close to her chest. Rhage grumbled. "Not Operation!"
Mary smirked and laughed. "Oh hell yes, Operation! You said I could pick any game I wanted!"
Rhage just smirked and walked over to the four person table and plopped in a seat. Mary sat across from him and set the game up. "Do you want to go first?"
Rhage nodded fast. "Hell yeah, or else you'll win on the first round!"
Mary laughed and shook her head. "We'll take turns, I promise!"
Rhage huffed and lifted the little metal tweezers. With as much grace as possible he slowly went for the rubber band.
About 10 minutes later, Rhage had had enough! He bolted out of his chair and pushed the game on the floor. "You're too good! I can't play this game!!!"
Mary sat back in her chair, trying so hard not to smirk. The five pieces she had successfully captured on the first try were sitting in a little pile on the table to her left. She slowly got up and walked over to the game on the ground. It was still intact, which was better then what she was expecting. "Oh now, don't be a party pooper. I'm just more awesome then you are."
Rhage smiled real big. "More awesome? I don't know about that."
Mary felt the hair on the back of her arms and head stand up as she felt someone walk up behind her. Suddenly she was picked up and cradled in Rhage's arms. After Rhage swooped his Mary up he spun around in circles. "I'm the best Vamp in this house, haven't you heard!"
Mary laughed and grabbed onto Rhage's chest and closed her eyes. Her hair was flying behind her head because of the speed Rhage was spinning. She could barely catch her breath through the laughter that they both were bellowing out of their mouths. Rhage finally slowed and stumbled a couple steps, but he wouldn't dare drop her. He smirked down and kissed Mary with so much passion, he knew his marking scent was adrift. Mary caught onto the smell right away and welcomed it with a deep breath after the kiss. She smirked up at Rhage and sighed. "So, shall we choose another game, or call it a night? That wasn't much of a game night though, you didn't even let me win."
Rhage scoffed and slowly set Mary down. "Fine, but this time we're playing cards... poker. Get your poker face ready woman, because I can read you like a book."
Mary sneared and plopped down in her chair as she watched Rhage grab the poker set and sit down across from her. He started separating the chips equally, followed by the dealing of the deck. Mary sat back and checked out her hand. She was determined to not let him read her like a book. She was going to be the best damn poker player on the planet.
After about an hour Mary had had enough. She had only five chips in front of her. She could read Rhage like a book, but he was still better then her. He had to have been stacking the deck. "I'm so done. I'm exhausted. This has made my brain hurt. You're too good."
Rhage smirked and sat back in his chair, thrusting his hips out. "That's right baby. You just keep reminding yourself that."
Mary rolled her eyes and put down her cards. She had a King, and then all lower cards. Rhage laughed and threw down his cards. He had her other three Kings and two Aces. Mary's eyes got huge and she stood up, gathering the cards. "Maybe you were just cheating the whole time!"
As Mary put everything away she felt Rhage's eyes on her body. She tried her best to ignore it while putting extra hip sways on her way to the game cabinet. Mary crossed her arms and looked through the games. Suddenly very large arms wrapped around her waist. She felt the comfortable form of Rhage's body against her back, and she knew soon she would feel his face nuzzle her neck. Without thinking she tilted her head to the side and sure enough, he nuzzled her. Rhage gave Mary little kisses while breathing in her scent. He even nipped at her shoulder as he felt her lay her head back against shoulder. Rhage smirked and pulled Mary closer so she could feel exactly how he felt.
Mary smiled a big lazy smile, knowing what would happen next. She slowly turned around in Rhage's arms to face him. "Game night over?"
Rhage kissed Mary's nose and looked deep into her eyes. "Postponed. I have something better in mind, and you don't even have to think about a damn thing. I'll do everything."
Rhage slowly leaned down and took Mary's lips. They stood like that for what felt like forever to Mary before Rhage swooped her up. He knew exactly where he wanted her, and the beast was not coming out tonight. It was all about Mary and him, and he was very excited. Mary looked around as they made their way to their room. If anyone was around there was no way they were going to NOT notice the spice coming off Rhage like it was going out of style.
Rhage strolled into the Billiard room, bored out of his mind. He needed a stiff drink after the night they had just had. If he was smart he would go up to his room, bed his Mary, and take out his aggression there... but there was something about not wanting the Beast to lay her tonight. Normally on nights there were no lessers to be seen, the Beast was energized. More energized then normal, which drove Rhage crazy. He could feel the buzz under his skin, even the vibrations in his breathing. Where was that drink?
Rhage walked up to the bar and poured himself a whiskey. After one short glug, he poured himself another and then walked over to the pool table. Time to get some concentration on. He grabbed a stick and set the table. With one loud CRACK, the balls went flying and Rhage entered into concentration land.
Brinn paced in front of the mirrors in her washroom, checking everything about her appearance it all had to be perfect ... normally she would just have to look near perfect but .... today was special she was going to see Darius who was the closest thing to home she had! Yeah, they were friends and she wasn't here to ask for more, but she had many truths to share with him about the last 100 years of her life that she felt sick to her stomach when trying to anticipate his reactions to some of them... okay to one of them, but it was BIG truth. And if she was being honest, she was scared he was going to hate her, swear at her or even go so far as to kick her out of his home before she could remind him that some of it wasn't her choice... that some things had to be the way they were for many reasons.... Okay this wasn't going anywhere, she was making herself feel sick with worry and that wasn't helping the situation so she needed to find a way to calm herself ... a distraction was what she needed. With a deep breath she set her Ipod into the portable speaker and hit play, a small smile coming across her face as Problems by Ariana Grande started to blare through the small speaker.
After a moment Brinn started to move her body to the beat, giving herself a moment to dance out the nervousness before picking out a new outfit. She grabbed her boot cut jeans, her off the shoulder black shirt that had a faint hint of a panther imprinted on it so that when she moved if one looked carefully they could see the stalking cat and started changing. By the time she finished getting dressed she was in her pencil skirt, her off the shoulder top with her make up subtle, big hoop earrings and knee high boots with hair done to perfection. At least it was better as she looked at herself in the mirror one last time.
" Go stupid before you change for the 20th time in 3 hours " she muttered to herself before she stood still and began to picture the place that Darius had taken her so many years ago. When she had the image firmly placed in her mind she dematerialized and followed her instincts.
It had been a long time, and her mind had lost partial focus a second after she left. As a result she dematerialized in the billiards rooms instead of the office, and she had re-materialized in a less than ideal position. She whipped her head side to side trying to make sense of where she was " Shit, the bastard moved! I don't recognize anything?" she cursed under her breath turning to look over her shoulder . That one balance threw off the balance she hadn't even realized she had been holding on the arm of the couch causing her to fall back and crash to the floor with an impressive sound. Her feet were up in the air leaning against the couch her eyes closed as she shook her head "at least there was no one around to see " that was when a loud Crack sounded and she turned her head to see what it was ... great... someone was just going to have to know... she thought before checking to make sure her skirt hadn't ridden up too high.
By this time, Rhage was on his seventh scotch and he was feeling it. All of a sudden a woman appeared in the room, causing Rhage to back up fast, flip backwards over the pool table, and land on his ass with a loud thump. "WHATH SHA FUCK!"
Rhage jumped up, causing the room to spin. "Whoa nelly..."
Rhage grabbed a hold of the pool table and positioned himself to look like he was casually leaning against it. He looked at the stranger... woman... stranger, and blinked a few times. "And who might this... beeee?"
Rhage lit up a smile as wide as his face, revealing bright white teeth, stunners really.
Brinn let her legs drop to the side rolling her body with the motion till she was standing her eyes looking over to the male who all but repeated her course which made her smirk...at least she could maybe keep him quiet about her lack of grace in that moment by keeping his quiet? It was worth a thought so she shrugged brushing her fingers over her attire making sure it was back in place before addressing him.
" I am terribly sorry for the intrusion" she would try and think if she knew him, could he be one of Darius's friends she had met several of them but he didn't look familiar " I was trying to find my friends place so that him and I could catch up on history but ... I am beginning to think he moved and forgot to tell me" she pretty much ignored the charming smile since the smell of scotch was rather strong in the room.
With a quick glance around the room, and a small one peaking out the entrance to the room she sighed " I don't recognize you, and I don't smell him here anymore but the decor is certainly his tastes, great look but not so functional ... he always did like things you were too afraid to break, even as a child" she rolled her eyes getting lost in the memories for a second before turning back to the male
" Forgive me, I am Brinna or Brinn. I don't suppose you know Darius, and if you are a friend of his do you think you could point me to his office, it seems I have lost my memory of this place... "
Rhage was getting confused by what the woman was saying, until he heard Darius' name. He immediately shut down. His brothers death still haunted him. Rhage walked over to where the sticks were hung on the wall, not gracefully. He pushed his stick in place and after the second try he got it to stay. Rhage turned to the woman and glared. "I don't know who you are. I don't know what you are doing here. But you are not funny."
Rhage turned to leave the room, stumbled a few steps then gathered himself up and stood tall. He looked at the doors across the room and they seemed miles away. Tonight was not his night. What was he going to tell Mary? Why did he drink seven motherfucking scotches?!
Brinn blinked as he moved around and she was starting to wonder if she was going to have to catch him or at the very least get him to sit down ... he was making her nervous and he was a little big for her medical specialties. Her expression changed as he told her she wasn't being funny...who was trying to be funny? She would shake her head "i guess that I should take that as your way of telling me you are unwilling to help me find my friend? If he has a female and you are worried about her I assure you that I am not trying to come between the two we have just been friends for years and I wish to see him now that I am able to come to his side of the world" she paused thinking about saying more but what was the point he clearly wasn't going to help her so she would start to move towards the entryway in hopes of running into Darius or at least a doggen ... his name was fritz if she remembered right...maybe he would remember her and tell her where to find him.
Brinn stopped to look at him " are you going to be okay to get around, I want to find my friend but if you need help getting somewhere I can aid you there first" she would lean against the wall beside the entry way watching him as he started to make his way to leave and she followed him since she was heading that way " Why wont you tell me where Darius is??? " she was starting to panic...was he mad at her ... had he not told her he moved on purpose?
Rhage made it to a chair and sat down hard. He put his elbows on his knees and put his hands against his face. She didn't know. Who is this woman? How did she not know? Rhage sighed heavily and rubbed his face. "This home belongs to Darius' daughter now. You say you're his friend... but you don't know? You don't know what happened..."
Rhage leaned back in the chair, dropping his hands on the arm rests in defeat. "Darius has moved onto the Fade. There was a terrible attack. He was my Brother...."
As Rhage spoke, it was as if his eyes glazed over. Memories flew one by one in his brain, reminding him of how little time he really had with Darius. Rhage's eyes switched to bright blue as he looked up at the woman, but it wasn't his eyes watching her. Suddenly they were back to normal, and Rhage was looking down in his lap again.
Brinn looked to the male who had yet to give her his name, but then she hadn't asked had she... She was about to when she saw his expression changed as he took a seat and her heart started to race as she started piecing things together... She listened to everything he had to say, standing frozen in her place as if she was waiting for him to jump up and scream he was just messing with her but when he didn't her knees buckled her body trembling as she rubbed her eyes chasing away the tears that were building " Th...that's ....no..not funny..... he ...I ...some....I wo...would have.... been told".
She put her hand over her mouth slamming her eyes shut, she would not get sick, she would not scream... not here in front of people she didn't know... she had to... she had to breath. She forced herself to breath through her nose slowly trying to calm the bile that was rising in her throat and threatening to betray her. She repeated her breathing exercises for several minutes before she finally looked up to him her eyes bloodshot from the tears she was fighting an grief was the only scent coming off of her, and it was palatable.
"When? " she would shake her head " I can't believe he's dead... it...I just.. .. he... was .." she felt like she was going to pass out her vision becoming decorated with little black dots that refused to clear themselves as she shook her head with great effort " I just ...I was going...to ...he has... he's never going to.... I ...should have come sooner...ignored what he told me... this is my fault" she wrapped her arms around herself her skin suddenly feeling cool to the touch.
" I was in hiding... him...thorment and ... and ...I can't remember his name... mean looking guy with tattoos... they gave me a new identity and sent me overseas so that I would not be killed my hellren ...well ex ... he died its why I could come back" she was talking more to herself in some ways and then more to him in others...
" bathroom?" she looked to him " is there a bathroom" she didn't think she could hold her stomach any longer and if he pointed she ran to it dropping to her knees and letting the grief turning her stomach and leaving the cool tile floor as her newest friend.
Where's the bathroom... the bathroom... bathroom... bath.... room....
Rhage snapped out of it and looked up just in time to see the woman running out of the room, only to hear a door slam just outside. She must have found it. Had someone offered him water? He definitely didn't need any water. There was nothing more sobering then talking about your dead brother, explaining his death to someone who was close to him that hadn't heard. It left a mark on you. Rhage slowly stood up and walked out of the room fast. He had one thing on his mind and that alone. He stood at the bottom of the staircase just outside the billiard room, and screamed. He couldn't dematerialize, he was too emotional. His thoughts were going miles a minute.
Mary was nose deep in a romantic book when she heard her name being bellowed from downstairs. The whole bed shook as it registered in her head. ...RHAGE...
Mary jumped off their bed and high tailed it for the stairs. Something was wrong. Rhage never shouted for her, if he needed her he's appear 3 inches in front of her. Mary saw Rhage, barely able to stand, leaning against the banister at the bottom of the stairs. She felt like it took her forever to get to the bottom, but in reality it was only a couple of seconds. "Baby, what's wrong? What happened?"
Mary noticed Rhage's eyes. The Beast was going in and out of his eyes, trying to communicate with her. "Let Rhage talk to me, please..."
Rhage started to speak fast. He explained the woman popping out of thin air in the billiard room, looking for Darius. He also apologized for smelling like Whiskey since he had had a few. Mary just waved her head in front of Rhage's face when he spoke about the whiskey. "I don't care about that right now, where is the woman?"
Rhage didn't even speak, just pointed towards the bathroom door. Mary nodded. She leaned up and kissed her hellren's cheek and then lips. He nodded back and hugged her tight before letting her go run to the woman's side. Mary turned at the last second before reaching the bathroom door and looked at Rhage. "Why don't you go upstairs and start a bath or something. I'll join you when I'm done, if it's not too long. You need some moments to yourself."
Mary turned and looked at the bathroom door. She knew behind the door was no ordinary first floor bath. It was bigger then her walk in closet upstairs, even though it only contained a toilet and pair of sinks. Why did they need two sinks in a hall bath anyway, she would never understand. Slowly she brought her hand up to the wood and knocked softly. "Hello? Is everything okay? I'm Mary..."
Rhage walked up the stairs to their room with not only Mary's smell on his lips, but also her lingering touch. He didn't know where or who he would be right this moment without that damn woman in his life. She was such a warrior. Rhage couldn't even imagine talking to the woman in the bathroom, let alone finding the right words to say.
Brinn knelt still for a few moment, taking deep breath through her nose before nodding to herself...okay she thought I should be okay... I hope, but at least I didn't eat before coming otherwise that could have been bad... yeah talking to yourself thats great Brinn... go crazy cause that helps a situation. She bantered with herself in a fashion for a moment before moving to flush, stand and b-line for the sink she had to wash her face and rinse out her mouth or she would get sick again... though in truth she wasn't sure doing those things was going to stop her from it anyway.
Once her mouth was clear of that taste she popped some gum into her mouth from her pocket. She took a moment to check herself over, organizing her appearance before taking a deep breath. She had been about to walk out when the knock came through the door and she would nod to herself reassuring herself that she would be fine " I'm coming out" she couldn't say that she was fine she wasn't going to embarrass herself further in front of these people. With a small movement she flicked the light off and opened the door peeking her head out to make sure it was clear. The last thing she wanted to do was peg the concerned individual ..named ...Mary... she thought in the head with it.
" Sorry, I didn't mean to intrude on anyone... or be an inconvenience..." she looked around to see if she could see that the male was alright but he didn't seem to be around so she would look back to the female who was clearly his female " I'm Brinna, or Brinn ...I am....was a friend of Darius" she took a breath trying to clear her head. And despite the make-up she looked tired as she leaned into the wall her eyes looking down at the floor .. " What am I suppose to do... he will be here soon and he was looking forward...." she stopped talking her eyes going a little glazed over as she lost her train of thought.
