Fifteen minutes later Mary slammed on the breaks in front of the Pitt. She looked behind her and smiled as Butch looked a hell of a lot better. She looked over at Riona and Rhaine. "Almost home, got to drop these guys off. Rhaine, want to help V get Butch inside?"
Butch couldn't help but let out low groans as he laid in the backseat with his buddy. The light that enveloped him was warm and comforting, a complete contrast to the awful darkness that he had to consume. Funny, when he was a cop he hated parts of his job because he never felt adequate enough. Then he'd feel adequate but it still felt like something was missing. He had no idea what was missing was a pair of fangs and the ability to consume the undead. Rhaine hopped out and came around, her backside brushing against V's hip as she reached into the SUV, tugging one of Butch's arms making sure he put most of his weight on the taller friend.
"God Butch, you're too heavy!" Butch chuckled and wrapped his arm around Rhaine's shoulders, more for support on her end than for him. He knew at this moment she was near her "desired one", and he had to feel for the girl. It was only a few years before V was in the same position, yet with his Boston buddy. Too bad they never played truth or dare with a shit load of alcohol.
"I am not heavy, you're just too short princess." Rhaine smirked and rubbed Butch's back as they headed into the pit, her senses taking in the moment. Thank goodness they weren't going into V's room, it would be all "jane" probably and she couldn't deal with it still. She was lucky the doctor seemed more fascinated in studying the vampire race than noticing a newly transitioned vampire girl's crush on her mate. Otherwise she probably would've had a ghost haunting her in her sleep telling her the typical 'stay-away-from-my-man!' bologna. When Rhaine's eyes darted to Vishous for a second, she melted and looked down whimpering slightly. Most people when feeding from someone take on their personality traits for a while, or get nice, hot romantic dreams. Rhaine? Oh no she has to go one step further and fall in love with a man she really doesn't even know just because he did one little thing...one simple little thing...you know...kept her alive and all.
They led Butch into his room and plopped his butt on the bed. He smiled and winked. "I can take it from here you two, V's already seen my naked ass and Rhaine, there's no tattoo on it so nothing worth you looking at." Rhaine blushed and laughed then waved walking out of the room, standing in the middle of the pit instead just taking in the view.
V watched as Rhaine helped take care of his lov-brother. His brother. V shook his head and walked out of the room. Every time he healed Butch, he left a little part of him inside. That was why he always ran straight to Jane, because she filled him back up, but tonight he had to make amends. V waited for Rhaine to come out of Butch's bedroom. He knew Marissa would be home anytime from Butch giving her a ring-a-ding on the little phone they are ordered to carry. So Butch wouldn't be alone, and that's what matters.
Suddenly V's thought process halted as Rhaine walked out of the room. If he wasn't already mated, he would think twice about her. She may be too submissive, although if he would have met her before Jane, that would have been just his type. But now? Who was he now? V sighed, "Thank you for helping me with Butch. Sometimes he's twice as heavy going in because he's just so full off good energy. Whatever, his ass is just fat."
V laughed loudly and heard Butch object from the bedroom. V walked over to the door, brushing past Rhaine to do so. "Oh shut up in there, call Marissa and go to sleep, true?"
V pulled Butch's door closed without giving him a chance to respond. V turned and bumped right into Rhaine, causing her to waver her stance. V shot out his arms and grabbed a hold of her, keeping them at arms length away. "Oh my, shit. I'm sorry. I thought you moved."
Mary waited about another five minutes before turning to Riona. "Okay, so they are probably going to take longer then I thought. So, we're just going to head over to the Mansion."
Mary pointed out her window and smiled. "It's the ginormous building over there."
Mary smiled and put the vehicle in gear and turned towards to mansion.
He touched her...for a split moment he touched her by bumping into her. She could feel the heat of his body near her making her entire body shiver in her boots. Oh what the hell was she doing...she felt like a teenager meeting her idol for the first time or something. She smiled and backed up slightly to give him room to move around her as she tried to clear her head.
"No um, sorry I didn't mean to get in the way." Her hands rubbed at her arms feeling chilly even though she was also burning up. She hated the position she was in, she knew the situation and yet she kept trying to hope for more. Maybe someday she'd sit down with Vishous and talk it all out. Maybe he'd be comforting to the situation and understand she wasn't trying to latch herself to him, she was just...stuck.
"Is he going to be alright? He didn't look very good."
V looked at Rhaine softly, she was really concerned. He had thought she didn't really care about the brothers, especially after they had all voted against her for fighting. "Yeah, he's going to be fine. He's a tough bastard."
V looked at Butch's door. He really was a tough bastard. V had no idea how Butch did it, night after night. Swallowing those lessers and ingesting the black Omega. V knew he wouldn't be able to do it. That's for sure. V turned around and faced Rhaine. "You okay? It's not cold in here is it?"
V smiled at Rhaine. He wished he knew the right words to say to her. He knew she was crushing, hard. But there was no feelings on his end. He felt terrible, Jane had ruined him for any other woman, even the ones he could see his old self with. And he felt terrible that Rhaine was being pulled along by her own feelings. V wished there was a man that was good enough to sweep her off her feet. Scribe Virgin knew he wasn't one of them.
Moving slowly, Rhaine sat down on one of the leather sofas she saw in the center of the Pit and shook her head. "Nah, it's not cold. I'm just worried I guess. Dad's going to beat me senseless when he finds out where I was." Her eyes slowly moved around the room, she could tell where the women had tried to make the place fancier, and where the guys went behind them and torched the idea. It was obvious the bedrooms were probably frilly and glamorous, while the Pit itself was all male. Rhaine didn't even like sports and yet she couldn't imagine ever coming down here and not seeing ESPN on the screen.
When her eyes landed on Vishous, she took in the sight and tried to convince herself this entire thing was all in her head. She had been told by her Father that there usually was a connection between those who drank from each other, well...usually. The rumors of V before he found Jane were he'd drink from females as long as they were tied down. But this was strictly business, Vishous only did what he did to keep Rhaine alive. It wasn't like he saw her and went "Yup that's it I want this one!" because that didn't happen. Taking a breath, Rhaine smiled and rubbed her face.
That's it, that's the last moment she was going to hope for Vishous. He could be a friend, but never more and she would make sure her heart knew that damnit. Well...unless he was close because man did he smell good...
"No...no...no..." Wait...did she just say that outloud?
Vishous felt the heat in the room go up suddenly, and it wasn't coming from him. He frowned and rubbed his face, unsure of what to do. He didn't want to get her in trouble, but she really needed to stop fighting. "I won't tell Wrath, but you really need to stop fighting. Or at least train with someone first."
V swore under his breath. "When I fed you, I knew you would be a strong one. It comes from Wrath's lineage, but you're sloppy, you're new, you're still learning. And the last thing I need on my mind is you dead. Wrath would be unbareable. I've already been through one Brother losing his young, I can't go through another."
Vishous walked up to Rhaine and sat down next to her. "You have to stop, until you're properly trained. I can ask Payne to work with you, she used to fight with your Father until everyone shut it down. Then maybe, you can join us like Xhex. But, that's a big maybe."
V stood up and paced. "Until then though, and between practice sessions, you have to help your Father out, true? I mean really help him out. The poor bastard is way too stressed, he's going to snap, and I fear it's going to be on Beth, if it hasn't happened already."
Vishous turned and sighed. "And you've got to drop the love-sick puppy thing. I hate to bring it up like this, but I'm not the one for you. And if you think about me day and night, then you won't find your happily ever after, true? He's out there, I'm not good enough. I'm not the person you need. I just happened to be the only one strong enough to save you at the time..."
V looked down at his feet. He truly felt terrible. He didn't want to hurt the girl, but he had to let it out. The feelings were getting between him and Wrath, and he hated it.
Today had to be the first day Rhaine had ever heard what a mouth *Clomp* really sounded like. Okay so...no fighting, no crushing, get back to being behind a desk all the time permanently....well...humph.
Rhaine's mouth opened again then closed, her eyes darting around the room as she let out a loud, long nasal sigh. Wasn't this just a kick in the teeth; this revealed to her just how new she was in the mansion and just how unneeded she truly was. Even though she saw the other female out there kicking ass, she couldn't do it and apparently it was angering the brothers she wanted to fight. His words kept repeating in her ears and the longer she thought about it the more her sadness and humiliation turned into anger.
One more clomp, and Rhaine rubbed her palms on her pants before standing. "Very well then." Yeah because looking at him and going "You're an ass." really wouldn't be a good idea. He could've had more damn tact. At least when Butch wanted to let her down about something he was nice about it. Turning, she stepped over and opened the pit door, closing it slowly before her eyes followed suit in the tunnel. It wasn't fair, she felt trapped and now she felt useless. She missed being free, having a job where she could go "home" later, and then go out and do things. She missed being able to find a man or woman to be with, and it wasn't her damn fault V's blood was what she drank. Yep, her crush feelings were switching quick to an irritating dislike, but hey now everyone had what they wanted she'd stop "wanting" him wouldn't she? Feeling like a trapped teenager, Rhaine smirked inside. She wondered how V would feel if she went out to Zerosum, and he and the others were forced to watch her as she flirted and drank and had fun with human men, seeing as they were supposed to "protect" her. Oh the fun she could have being a bratty little "King's daughter" but she wasn't like that. She did want to go out though...
Turning and walking down the tunnel, she headed to her room. She was going out tonight, and to hell with the rules. To the club!
**** Rhaine leaves Pit, transfer to scene in Zerosum ****
V huffed and put his hands on his hips. The only teenager he had to deal with recently was the boys in training, and they respected him more then that. This was something new. He might have to talk to Jane about this later. He paced back and forth and then gave up. "Fuck it. I'm not talking to Payne then."
V had offered to hook her up with fighting training, which all of the brothers had been put through way worse, and he even offered to keep it a secret that she was caught out from Wrath. Hell, she just got out of transition not too long ago. V was going to think twice about offering anything up to her again.
V got out his cell and noticed a text from Rhage, letting him know he was heading to Zerosum. "Wow, haven't been there in forever, why not."
