The night wind blew with yet another cold gust, rustling newspapers and making trash can lids creak as they swayed. Every step Rhaine took down the wet streets made her skin shrink more and tighten against her body; and yet her heart wouldn't stop pounding in her chest. Rhaine's attire was straight out of a Blade film at least in her eyes. Black tight leather pants, thick high-heeled knee high leather boots, a blue and black lace corset beneath a sheer black tank top, and a leather knee length jacket that covered her stolen weapons. She had snuck in a few times to her Father's room and taken some throwing stars, some small throwing knives, and even a gun even though she had absolutely no intention of ever using it.
Trying to keep her footsteps quiet, she guided her body down one street then ducked down an alley. A few nights ago she found Rhage, Butch, and Zsadist battling it out here with a few lessers and she hoped the idiots would return to the scene of the crime. Idiots meaning the pale fuckers, not her "Uncles". She wished they were her brothers, she'd begged and pleaded to be able to fight alongside them but they wouldn't allow it. Z in fact scoffed at the idea and pointed out that next to Xhex, Rhaine was shorted, not as muscular, as was more suited as the female waiting for her male to come home at night. Problem with that was she had no male to wait for so this is what she wanted. Sniffing the air, Rhaine couldn't catch the 'baby powder' scent of the rotting undead and that just frustrated her even more.
Moving slowly, she could've sworn someone was behind her but when she looked back she didn't see anything. Her mind gave her multiple scenarios: Perhaps it was Vishous coming to sweep her off her feet? Yeah that would happen. He loved his freakin' doctor ghost mate. She could dream though she couldn't she? Maybe it was a lesser trying to get the better of her, that wouldn't happen either. She'd make sure he had a throwing star between his eyes. Could it be a human looking for a little fun? Well, that did sound appealing right now...
Mary cursed under her breath for letting her cell phone die on her. She swore it was fully charged before she snuck out of the mansion tonight. It wasn't really sneaking, Mary wasn't ordered to never leave. However, she felt a little ping of guilt only leaving a little note on her bed in case Rhage got back before she did. Where was she heading out at night, especially in such a bad area? Her old Suicide Hotline Prevention Center. She knew this time of year they'd be getting a lot of phone calls, and the place would be packed full of volunteers spending hours of their precious time helping those who would call. Smiling to herself she remembered how she had come to be introduced to this lifestyle. If she hadn't been working that late night hour at the hotline then she would have never met John, and she would have never met Rhage in that hallway in the basement of the training center.
Mary looked down the street she was walking. It was cold, and very damp out. Her mid-lengthed leather jacket that Rhage insisted she wear was a bit chilly, even with the fur lining that he also insisted she have for extra warmth. If he only knew she was out here, he'd have a heart attack. Mary turned and kept walking, she knew the direction of Jade Gardens, the popular Chinese take out that she frequently stopped through after leaving the hotline. Those days however she had a vehicle with her, and she wasn't walking by foot. Suddenly something caught the corner of Mary's eye. She whipped her head around and watched a red headed figure walk out of an alley and head away from her. She would have sworn it was Rhaine. But it couldn't be, she wasn't allowed to be out fighting yet, and if she was they never fought alone anymore since Wrath ascended to the throne.
Mary turned on her heels and started walking behind the red-headed woman. She completely forgot about heading to Jade Gardens to call for a taxi, now she needed to find out if this was Rhaine or just some woman walking scary streets at night. Maybe she needed help? Mary tried to stay in the shadows as she walked, suddenly realizing that if this was not a nice woman, she would be screwed. She could maybe outrun the woman, but if it came down to fighting she would be at the bottom end of the ability pool. She had very little muscles, even though she'd started working out with Rhage on occasion. She knew she was no match. Right about now, even though she wouldn't stop her pursuit, she wished she had had some type of weapon.
Cold, that was the first thing that popped into her mind when Riona awoke later that night. Teeth chattering, she pulled the blanket she had pilfered from a store in the last town she was in and sat up. Moaning, she knew sleeping on the concrete floor was not the best idea she had, but considering all that had happened the prior night....
It all came back, like a movie in her mind. The trucker she had hitched a ride with had dropped her off on the edge of town. the lech had offered her a deal. He would bring her into the heart of town if she did a little something for him. Not a stranger to these kind of offers, Riona simply had told him no. So he had dropped her off outside of town with about a had an hour until sun up. Somehow she had beaten the odds and managed to find "Trade Street". Not uptown but would suffice. Boarded buildings, their empty shells beckoned to her like a drug to a junkie. At this point, she had 10 minutes to find a place to hide. The first building she tried, four floors and tagged with various types of gang graffiti, was no good. The roof had rotted which had lead to water in the building, which had lead to the floors caving in. If it had not been for the fact that vampires had good eyes at night, Riona would have fallen right into the basement. The second building, as single story house, one slated for demolition as the note posed to the door stated, fit the bill. Running her hand along the sides and the bottom of the plywood the humans had used to board up the door, Riona prayed to whoever would hear her that she would be able to get a few fingers in between the wood and the door. Her prayers were answered. Riona found some space at the bottom and slowly pulled the wood back enough that she could get it without it looking disturbed. Throwing her denim back pack into the hole first, she had gotten on her stomach and weaseled her way in. Her foot the last part to enter had a little accident. The sun was now coming up and a little had fallen on the exposed skin between her boots and tattered jeans. Riona had pulled her leg in quick. First thought was to check the wound but survival kicked in. Like a rat in a maze, Riona maneuvered herself through the fist floor, opening all doors trying to find stairs to the basement.
In what appeared to be a kitchen, she found it- wooden stairs that lead down. More pain as the sun, it's little fingers peeking through the boarded windows, made a grab for her. Flying down the steps, Riona remembered to close the door behind her. On the second time down, one of the wooden stairs broke. Crying out from the sharp feeling of a needle piercing her leg, Riona grabbed the handrail and pulled herself back up. Cursing, she made her way carefully down the remaining stairs. Sunlight was all around down here, the idiots had failed to board these windows. Guess the figure they are too small for someone to get in or out. But they are perfect for me. Scanning the room, she spotted darkness towards the back, blessed darkness. Opening her backpack, she pulled out the blanket. Placing it over her head, Riona ran, eventually reaching a back room that had no windows. Panting, she ignored the pain, found the furthest corner from the doorway and settled onto the floor to sleep.
That was last night..tonight...tonight she was back. Back in her hometown...back for answers and to clear her name. Grabbing a switchblade from her backpack, Riona pushed open one of the basement windows. Grabbing, the sill she pulled herself up and slithered out like a snake. Standing, she quickly righted her clothes and glanced around the semi darkened street, making sure no one saw her. First order of business was to find food. Reaching into her front pocket and pulling out her hand, Ri realized this would not be an easy task. Not with only fifty cents to her name. Story of my life, she thought. Shaking it off, Riona headed out into the night.
Mary was continuing to follow Rhaine when someone else popped right out in front of her. She yelped loud and then quickly covered her mouth with her hands. She jumped back and leaned against the brick building. "I'm sorry..."
Mary looked past the new lady and hoped that who she was following was Rhaine, and she had heard her yelp. This was not a good area to be in. ...I wish Rhage was here...
The yelp in the air caught Rhaine's attention, and the woman stood up slowly from her crouched position by the dumpster. 'Mary...?' She thought quickly, before walking back to the edge of the alley seeing her friend standing there along with another vampire. Glancing around the streets, Rhaine quickly pocketed her weapons so as to not get in trouble for pick-pocketing her on Father before moving close to Mary.
"What are you doing out at night? Rhage would go bonkers, especially knowing you're in this area." At the same moment the words flew out of Rhaine's mouth, she knew she was saying the same thing to herself. If she was caught, she'd be stuck with serious consequences. But it's not like she was on lockdown, she just wasn't allowed to fight. Moving her head around, she continued to survey the street making sure nothing would randomly jump out to stab any of them, before landing her gaze on the new person. "Hello."
Mary could have peed herself, she was so relieved that it was indeed Rhaine that she was following. But before she dwelled on that too long Rhaine's words registered in her head. "Me out?! What about YOU! You're more important then I am! When I saw you, I had to make sure it was you..."
Mary hugged Rhaine around the neck tight and whispered, "Thank God, er, I mean the Scribe Virgin it was you!"
Mary let go of Rhaine's neck and stood back and turned to look at the young woman who Rhaine was facing off with. Mary slowly held onto Rhaine's wrist that was holding a small dagger. Mary wondered where Rhaine got the dagger to begin with, but she wasn't going to talk about that now since they may very well need it. As Mary held onto Rhaine's wrist gently she said quietly, "Wait... hello, I'm Mary and this is Rhaine. Are you lost?"
Lhust looked over the edge of a high building, frowning as she gazed down at the three figures. Crouched down so no one would see her, Lhust listened to them. When she heard one of them mention the name Rhage, that took her back. "Hmm, so they know the Brotherhood? Seems these little chickens aren't suppose to be out of their coup." She smirked. Pathetic that the Brotherhood failed to keep their females protected. What if something happened to them?
It was't her problem really. What ever these females did, it wasn't Lhust's job to watch over them. They decided to sneak out, no one made them do it. "Whatever. I have other things to worry about." And she better be quick about it, else Frankie would throw a fit as to why the hell she was late in getting into work...again.
Silently, she turned away from the edge and walked across the graveled roof top. She dematerialized onto another roof then another, heading away from the females. "Now..where can you guys be?" She asked, looking down between the buildings into the alleyways. "Where oh where?" she sniffed the air and cringed. "God, they smell so bad." She whispered and moved to another roof top. Looking down, she grinned. "There you guys are." There were three of them heading down an alleyway towards the same direction where those females were. They should be lucky they were far aways from these three. "Guess I'll end my night with these three." She commented. Slipping her silver daggers from her holsters, she gripped them and dematerilaized right behind the three lessers.
They quickly sensed her and turned around, jumping back in surprise. "Aww, don't be scared. I'm just an innocent female." She joked and twirled her daggers in her hands. With her cloak up, it was hard for them to see her face, but hearing her, they knew they were dealing with a female.
"You bitch." Lesser1 said as he pulled out a switch blade. The other two followed, one raising up his fists, the other bringing out, seriously, a gun? Do they not tell each other that they needed to avoid humans at all costs?
"You fucking newby." She murmured. "well I can see this isn't going to be a slow fight, which sucks, but hey, what can I do?" Before they could move, Lhust moved fast, appearing in front of the gun holder. She raised her leg up high, kicking the gun out of his hand and was thankful when it didn't go off when it hit the ground. Surprising him, she twirled, swinging her leg and kicked him hard in the side of his head, sending him to the wall. "One down." She hissed.
Moving fast, her cape flapping around her, she guarded against a punch, then another. She shuffled and swung her hand, running the tip of her dagger along the lesser's throat. God, the smell intensified as his blood spilled. It didn't help that he was gurgling causing the blood to bubble out. To make sure he was down, she dropped kicked him over the head, his head hitting the hard, dirty ground with a loud smack. "And then there was one."
The one left had stayed back, blade up at the ready. "Oh please." She rolled her eyes from under her cloak. Dematerializing here and there, confusing him as to where she was going to be, Lhust appeared behind the fucker and swung her dagger, sending the blade all the way through the side of his skull. He fell instantly. "God, I hate these slow fights." She murmured and pushed her cloak off her head. Sighing, she went about, searching their bodies for I.Ds. "Not many of them are showing up. I wonder why?" She asked as she picked through one pocket then another, trying to find a wallet.
Rhage was out patrolling for Lessers. He wasn't alone, Butch was... nearby. Where did that bastard go? Rhage looked around, just in case he was leaning over a Lesser, swallowing his ass back to oblivion. Nope, he wasn't around. Rhage pulled out his cell and quickly threw Butch a text.
'I'm heading out further. Call if needed. Mkay?'
Rhage pushed the phone back into his front pocket and started walking. They hadn't run into any lessers tonight, and it was starting to really get under his skin. His Beast was ready to rumble, but there was no rumbling happening. Where the hell were they all? He hoped to the Scribe Virgin that they were not planning another large attack. Even though the Brothers were anticipating something, he knew they weren't ready. Suddenly, the sweet smell of powder drifted into his nose. Rhage smirked and looked around, but there was nothing. And then suddenly the smell was gone. "What the fuck?"
Rhage honed in on where the scent was and dematerialized there. What he saw was not something he expected. Leaning over what looked like the last of three lessers was a thin woman, but even though she was thin she must have been strong to take the lessers out on her own. She was gathering information off of them as well, which is not okay. Rhage took a step forward out of the shadows. "Um, what do you think you're doing?"
Rhage stormed right over and snatched the information out of the womans hands. "This is not your job. You should probably go home and pray I forget I saw you here tonight."
Rhaine's eyes popped up to the rooftop as she saw a shadow walk another direction. The body was way too thin to be one of the Brothers, but then she overheard a voice and her eyes widened. "Mary...does that sound familiar to you?" Looking back at the girl who was in front of them, Rhaine snatched both ladies and brought them over into the alley, ducking them down behind the dumpster hoping they didn't mind the stench of old food. The last thing she needed was one of the guys finding her out here and kicking her ass for it. Reaching into her pocket, played with a throwing star with the hopes that no one appeared at this point that would need it.
Glancing around, the alley looked so dark and cold. The water would shimmer and ripple in the puddles along the broken pavement when the wind blew, and the rustling newspapers reminded Rhaine of billowing tumbleweeds. All they needed now was Butch popping up with a random "Yee-haw" to make the scene complete of a Gothic "one-horse town".
Mary panicked and listened in the air before she was whipped away behind a dumpster with Rhaine and the stranger. She felt horrible about pulling the stranger into this situation.... except what situation were they in? "Uh... I don't hear anything, Rhaine. What's going on? You know I don't have supernatural hearing like you guys... did you hear someone?"
Mary smiled at the stranger. If the stranger was a vampire then she would have already known that Mary was a mere human. If she wasn't, well then hopefully she didn't read in too much to what she had just said to Rhaine. "I'm sorry about all this, you know. I'm not one for dramatics, but this is pretty intense."
Before she could apologize to the woman another female appeared. Red haired like herself, Riona could tell the two knew each other. She listened to the talk, something she did rather well, feeling out whether or not they were friend or foe to her. As she was about to apologize then say hello to the red haired woman when the red head grabbed her and the other woman. Next thing she knew, she was hiding behind a dumpster. Too wierd, she thought. The wind seemed to blow in the right direction carrying a scent...baby powder. It made her nose twitch. Somewhere in the recesses of her mind, a door long locked opened and information pored out. Lesser, she hissed. Her greens eyes looked to the woman with the blond hair. You are human. Then she turned to the other red head. You are vampire. Someone please tell me why we are hiding behind a dumpster? Oh and sorry for bumping into you.
It was at this point that her stomach decided to give it's two cents and rumbled loud enough that Riona was sure the other two ladies had heard it loud and cleared. She sighed. Food was one issue and the other... She shook her head, not wanting to think about the other. She would cross that proverbial bridge when she got to it. The tossing of the star by the red head made her a little leery.
Smiling softly, Rhaine looked at Riona and put her hand out. "My name is Rhaine, and you're right I am a vampire. I was actually hiding us from Rhage. If he found out Mary and I were out here we'd get our asses into slings...well..." Rhaine paused and smirked looking at Mary then back at the female, "I'd be in a sling. Mary would probably get a stern talking to then a harder turn in the sack." Turning herself to Mary, Rhaine couldn't help but laugh a bit. "Woman, that was your man from the sounds of it verbaly bitch slapping someone somewhere. He's close, which makes me wonder where Butch is I could've sworn they were out together."
"Where are my manners..." Rhaine pocketed her weapon and rubbed her palms on her leathers, knowing the last thing she needed was to sweat in someone hands. Also talking about Brotherhood stuff around people she didn't know was a serious no-no, and now she was going to just kick her own ass mentally for it. Reaching for Riona's hand, Rhaine heard the other ginger's stomach growl and blinked. "Are you hungry?" Well that was a stupid question. She heard her stomach louder than Z's after a workout.
The air began to tense with sweetness, and Rhaine glanced around worriedly. "Mary, why don't you head on home and call Rhage. See if we can bring our new friend too she should be somewhere safe right now." Finally just taking a breath, Rhaine felt that may be a good set of advice for herself at this point. There was no way she could fight if Rhage was around, without him beating her for it later.
Before the woman in front of him could answer, Rhage smelled someone. Someone close. ...Mary...
With a grunt Rhage pulled his dagger off his chest and walked over to the two lessers that were not waking up anytime soon. With two quick stabs they were gone in the flash of a light. Nothing left but black torch marks on the cement. Rhage made his way back to the third lesser and woman. "I'm sorry I have to make this so rushed. I hope I don't see you out here anymore. Now, if you don't mind me..."
Rhage stuffed the lessers information in his pockets and then leaned down and took out the last lesser, sending him back to Father dearest. He wished Butch was around so he could just watch them disappear into oblivion, but he had no idea where Butch was. He felt bad about leaving this random woman, who should not be doing what she is doing. What if she got hurt? Not his problem. Rhage turned and waved, smirking as he disappeared right in front of her. Maybe he'd see her again someday. Just as he finished his thought he dematerialized right in front of a dumpster. He cleared his throat loudly.
"Do you mind telling me what exactly is going on right this fucking MINUTE!"
As soon as he appeared she knew it, even though she couldn't see him. His scent was strong, and the oxygen around her got very thick. Mary jumped out from behind the dumpster and there he was, standing in all leathers, looking very... pissed. Mary ran forward and couldn't help herself. She threw herself at his body and felt his arms wrap around her body. She sighed and felt safe. "I'm so sorry. I dropped off a basket of food for the Suicide Hotline since I knew they'd be busy this time of the year... no one saw me... but then my phone died, and I ended up here... with..."
Mary turned around and watched for the two other ladies to walk out from behind the dumpster. "We're fine though... I promise."
Rhage relaxed inside as soon as Mary hit his chest. She was safe. After hearing her very fast explanation, he glared at her. "You're not doing this again, at least not without me going with you. What the fuck, Mary? You could have been killed. I just watched a woman take down three lessers a couple blocks away. You can almost smell them still..."
Rhage sniffed the air. ...Fuck...
Rhage pulled the dumpster out and pushed Mary behind it. "STAY. ALL OF YOU!"
Just as Rhage pushed Mary behind four lessers turned the corner, laughing in a group. They obviously didn't see him, but they would soon.
